The Lipster? is really great and everyone should know about it. The girls at The Lipster put on a gig for International Women’s Day (did you know there is an International Women’s Day? I didn’t, but there is, hurrah for me and all women everywhere!).
Piney graced the cocktail hour followed by Monade, Docker MC and Martha Freakin’ Wainright!
It was the debut of Piney’s brand new look, brand new band, brand new songs from her brand new album on the first of The Lipster’s Girl Friday series at the QEH… it was great so you should’ve been there.

Wow, there was some confusion about which Rough Trade this gig was at, resulting in a lot of Piney’s friends saying “We’re at Rough Trade East where are you?” and a total of 6 people at the Talbot Road store. Never mind, Piney gave instruments to all in the shop and they had a little sing song, that was fun.

Piney Unt Une Amigo played unplugged in Piney’s own quilting bee tent. There were bands playing acoustic all weekend, along with crafting and stitching a Truck 10 Year Anniversary Quilt (¬£300 was raised for Haven House).

The Roadshow were honoured to share the stage with the amazing Darren Hayman. It was a most excellent night!

Piney and the Age of Reason glitch up the Standon Calling Festival. It was something like a really cool person’s wedding reception and the beautiful countryside with stately home and flower gardens made Piney feel right at home. Not to mention the 50’s cocktail party theme of which Piney is queen, and the purpose built ball room floor for dancing, and the free champagne. Do go next year if you missed it!

Piney supported one of her long time musical heroes Bertrand Burgalat at the quirkily French French Disconnection which happens each season at the Luminaire. Piney and The Age Of Reason chaps did a special rendition of Bonnie And Clyde (complete with plastic guns) and the beautiful Konki Duet started the night out beautifully.

Piney was the rhinestoniest cowgirl at the best fest in the west. Piney was accompanied by the amazing Roadshow! Jamie played fiddle. There was a special crooning duet and softshoe routine with Edmond Bennett (the father of Truck Fest!), and the “Piney Line Dance” with all the beautiful dancing girls (thanks to Annie Manic Cough for the dance lessons)! It was just the best thing ever, no really!

Errr… the sound was shambolic, Piney’s accordion fell apart, this maybe wasn’t the BEST show, but it was fun and the kids loved it. Oh and it was right next to the Cake Shop which is possibly Piney’s favourite place on Earth!

4th March – Piney and the Age Of Reason played ROTA at the Notting Hill Arts Club along with FortDax and special guests. Despite a myriad of technical difficulties, Piney and the A.O.R. chaps charmed the crowd with their kazoos, accordions, double bass and acoustic guitar stylings, and Alexander’s glitchy sounds was the cherry on top… Kool and the gang!
3rd of March – The Piney Gir Country Roadshow struggled through M25 disaster, diversions through Watford, snow and sleet to get to Brudenell Social Club in Leeds for The Research’s album launch. We literally tumbled out of the van and played a gig (after a lightning fast pee). The Roadshow were joined by the lovely Jamie, who is like the Vanessa Mae of Scottish folk fiddlers. We were given gifts of cake and tequila, thank you kindly… we love Leeds and The Research! Next time we’ll rent a helicopter though, and Debs can drive it, she’s a star!
26th Feb – Piney was the token girl, joining Dusty Soundsystem for Love Music Hate Racism at Bush Hall; along with Chris T-T, Get Cape Wear Cape Fly, the Television Personalities, and other nice boys. There were plenty of pink cupcakes for all, baked by Piney herself. Mmm… what better way to assert one’s femininity than with pink cupcakes?
Piney Toured with The Research, huzzah! She had a jolly good time at all your local places. The Research are AMAZING go buy thier album, honestly, you deserve it! Here’s where we played…

And Piney’s extra special show blossomed with class, sophistication and Disney favourites. Big thanks to Dog Boy who was particularly good at barking like a dog. Sylvia Plath Charm School are the best DJ’s in the whole world. It was a civilised affair…
15th Jan – The Piney Gir Country Roadshow played the Buffalo Bar supported by Piney’s friends Dusty Sound System, The Michelles, and Headland. It was Brokeback Mountainous!
13th Dec – The Piney Gir Country Roadshow were yee-haw good, in Chelmsford’s own Bitterscene. God bless the Bittersceners, every one of them. Piney wonders if Essex might actually be her spiritual home, but decides perhaps it isn’t because there isn’t a white stilletto in the house.
3rd Dec – The Piney Gir Country Roadshow played The Orange Street Music Club in Canterbury. We didn’t know that we had to play for so long, so gosh darn it we made stuff up, it was actually brilliant… the kind of thing you could never plan in a set list anyway. Magic!
28 Nov – the Piney Gir Country Roadshow played Luminiare on Kilburn High Road with Electric Soft Parade and Goldrush, it was YEE-HAW fun!
22 Nov – Piney played at the Glee Club with the Age Of Reason chaps, what a classy affair to remember.
7th Nov – Piney played a special set with the Age Of Reason at the Notting Hill Arts Club for CRAFT night, also playing was the queen of quirk Ninki V and people made their own bead person to take home with them! There was the very special Ol’ Time Kansonian Confessional Box, where the audience helped to create a Piney song right there on the spot!
4th Nov – Piney did a solo gig at the Cricketers in Sheffield for this splendid “Daisy Daisy” weekender! The people of Sheffield made Piney feel super welcome, it’s friendly up north!
Oct 27th – Piney and Anat did a special performance at Wired Women at the last Wired Women of the year AND the last Wired Women at the Spitz. The amazing Gina Birch (the Raincoats) played a stellar set, the Tits Of Death were crazy-sexay-cool, The Spinster Sisters were pure rock n roll, and there was a screening of the legendary film Born In Flames, not to forget Wired Women DJ’s Fiona and Davina, resident VJ Mindlobster. This was a proper ho-down!
Oct 23rd – Piney played her favourite tunes at the Penelope Tree Club at Bartok. What nice people that run that club! And it’s free for one and all, it happens every other week, so if you missed it, check it out!
Oct 3rd – Piney played In The City in Manchester with her chums A Scholar And A Physician. At the Stylish Riots gig. It was very, industry-ish but Piney and friends put on a grand ol’ show!
25th Sept – Piney supported King Biscuit Time with the help of most of her Country Roadshow… it was a stripped down, bluegrass kind of affair, and really good fun
20th Sept – Piney Gir’s Country Roadshow did smash it at the Spitz with The Broken Family Band. It was all sold out and hot and sweaty and stuff, yes!
17th Sept – The Piney Country Roadshow played The Amersham Arms in New Cross along with Auto Radar. Ummm… erm, it was definitely a full moon. I think we should leave it at that…
16th Sept – Piney played a solo set at the beautiful Norwich Arts Centre, along with her friends Kaito, they were amazing! And a trendy band from new York played called Ex Model, they were really fun too!
11th Sept – BESTIVAL – Piney played the main stage on Sunday at 1:45, supported by the beautiful boys in her Country Roadshow, and joined by the lovely-as-ever Scholar and Technician. Viva la Bestival!
25th Aug – Piney played an all new set at Wired Women at the Spitz, gosh! Also playing was Pam Hogg, Rebecca Closure, DJ Max and VJ Mindlobster. there ya have it!
19th Aug – Piney played the lovely Secret Garden Party on the Main Stage! It was an amazingly gorgeous festival, with lots of quirk and charm…
11th Aug – Piney played at Club MotherF*cker supporting one of her favourite bands The Organ. Piney did a lovely set to a loving audience, and the Organ were just amazing!
7th Aug – Piney DJ-ed at the Light Programme, at the Lion. Piney Gir’s very dear friend, Alex of Alexander’s Festival Hall played a smashing set, as did the lovely Michelmas (is that how it’s spelled?).
6th August – Piney played the TMF Festival on the Drowned In Sound Acoustic Stage. Her casio beats were warmly recieved by goths and mums and all the rock ‘n’ rollers. Piney was an oasis of quirk in a desert of emo and nu-metal. Go figure! You can read more about the line-up herehere! Thanks to Dusty of Dusty Soundsystem for helping her out with her new songs!
23-24th July – The Truck Festival was great! Piney was lucky enough to have the sun smile on her set, after a weekend of grey and rain, this was quite a treat. Piney was joined by A Scholar and a Technician, PC, The Schla La Las, The Piney Karaoke Dancing Girls, Ninja Jen, Jane from Motormark and the Piney Gir Country Roadshow. The only problem was that the show went by so quickly!

16th July – THE WIRED WOMEN FESTIVAL, was absolutely smashing! Piney, Anat and all thier favourite girls, Angie Reed, The Cranes, Motormark, Radical Cheerleaders, Ninki V, Funsize Lions, Venus the Fly Trap, lots of cool lady DJ’s, crafty girls in the shop, with a free-flowing chocolate fountain! It was girl heaven. You can check out the blogspotif that’s your kind of thing.
9th July – Piney Gir’s Country Roadshow headlined the Acid Country All Dayer at the Windmill… it was all packed and busy and fun. The dog on the roof barked a lot too, perhaps because he was singing along.
3rd July – Piney played on her ownsome at the Lion in Stokey. Her show featured songs old and new. It was small and packed and a most intimate affair indeed. Jolly good show by the Light Orchestra too!
30th June – Piney DJ’d along with the Military Sweethearts at Wired Women. And Client gave a sterling performance too!
14th June – Piney forced everyone at Cargo to listen to her favourite records, and there was a stunning live set by the Broken Family Band.
5th June – Piney played at the 13th Note in Glasgow with a fab band called Flying Matchstick Men. People in Glasgow sure are friendly, and Piney was excited to spot the Acid Mother’s Temple having a vegan snack in the 13th Note Cafe. They certainly look psychedelic! Who knew Glasgow was so cool and full of wierdos?! Piney loves it in this fine city! Oh and that art with the kid holding his breath in tunnels is cool if you’re anywhere near that modern art gallery in the middle of town you should check it out.
29th May – The Piney Country Roadshow played an amazing gig to a full house at the Salisbury Festival. There was country dancing down in front, and cries for more more more! Thanks.
22nd May – Piney played a solo set on Perranporth Beach. The sun, sea, and sand was perfect.
19th of May – the world premiere of Piney’s new material happened in a small smokey room at the Whitechapel Art Gallery. A shambolic set met rapturous applause and cries for more. Piney played (gasp) guitar (umm… slightly out of tune), and casio driven songs about lonely cowboys and love. A good time was had by all who crammed into this lovely tiny space.
1st of May – Piney played at the POW – Track ‘n’ Field All Dayer. There was Gary from Aberdeen explaining the oatmeal stick and it’s fascinating origins. There was special birthday fun for A Technician. Piney was joined on stage by Gemma the indie pop princess. Jolly jolly good fun!
So the tour is done, and Piney feels a bittersweetness much like when summer camp ends and you are happy/sad about it all. You can read her weblog thing which is to be fully updated, thanks to some help from A Physician who is far better at technical things like that. Read all about in in the next day or two.

Val and Ann Marie sang a beautiful rendition of “Winter Wonderland.” Piney was joined by her other friends, A Physician and a Technician, Leo the slide guitar man, Mike the drummer, The Schla La Las did a sassy dance to Piney’s special version of “These Boots Are Made For Walkin’”, Piney and Alex of Alexander’s Festival Hall did an amazing Christmas tap dancing routine to Nightsong, and Piney’s festive song “King of Swing” was the grand finale! Big thanks to Rob Da Bank for inviting Piney to his ICA extravaganza!
Dec 12th – Piney did a special Christmas jazz impromptu set at the Grand Delinquents X-mas Fete. It was fun and festive and full holiday cheer (Santa even came along). There was a special limited edition CD/pressie, to all in attendance.
Dec 11th – Piney visited Leeds for the Nasty Fest. What a friendly, fashionable crowd they were, Piney would gladly come back to Leeds. There was also a brilliant performance by Piney’s friend, Simon Bookish!

1st of October – Piney played the Hull Adelphi’s 20th birthday party along with Fonda 500. It was festive and fun and all involved put on a great show. Happy birthday Hull Adelphi!
29th of September – Piney played with Client and the Soho Dolls at the Oxford Zodiac. It was a night of sexy ladies in high heels all ‘round, let’s here it for ladies that synth! Rah rah rah!
26th of September – Piney played the Merchant City festival for Real Radio Scotland. She had quite an adventure on her Scottish debut as she was accosted backstage by the Glascow police! Who knew she was so rock ‘n’ roll? Luckily even the cops are nice in bonnie Scotland. Hopefully she’ll be allowed back up north soon.
4th of September – Piney DJ’ed at the Embassy, she was most pleased when she managed to get the whole dance floor to do the Jane Fonda workout with her. Who said going to smokey bars isn’t good for you?
2nd of September – Piney played in trendy Shoreditch at On The Rocks. She baffled the crowd with her electro-country-big-band stylie, they were stroking their trendy chin chins.
29th Aug – The Custard Factory, Birmingham – What a delightful venue! It felt trendier than the likes of Piney but she was the bell of the ball nonetheless…
24th Aug – The Albany (Great Portland Street), This was WIDE birthday party! Piney did a live set all on her ownsome and there was dj-ing from Novamute’s Debasser and Cutlass Supreme. A fun and festive time was had by all!
17th of August – 93 Feet East – The Fair Sex Fair, this evening celebrated women as artists in electronic music and films. The line-up was amazing and included Piney, Anat Ben David, No Bra, and Sweetie, films include “Fashion Victim” Australian lesbian splatter flick, & “Tombstone” featuring Peaches. Sweetie and Piney did a special rendition of “Nightsong” to a happy crowd! And Mindlobster’s visuals were particularly spectacular!
11th of August – 291 Gallery (Hackney), Piney played this converted church/gallery in an intimate setting, beautiful!
6th of August – The Wheatsheaf in Oxford, Piney played with quirky hip hoppers, Hot Chip! This gig was so hot and crowded, sweat was dripping down from the ceiling on an enthusiastic crowd… viva la summer while it lasts, eh?
5th of August – Piney played plush new venue “Take the High Road” this stylish west London venue was a lovely setting for the lovely Miss Gir
1st of August – Piney played the bandstand at Waterloo Park in Norwich, the sun was shining, the bees were out gathering pollen, the crowd was most friendly, and it was picnics all round!
30th of July – number 10, this was a beautiful venue; the perfect setting for Miss Piney Gir. Joining her was Simon Bookish, and Alexander’s Festival Hall.
24th-25th of July – TRUCK FESTIVAL, Truck rocked! Piney was the bell of the ball at this year’s Truck Festival, good fun was had by all, Piney’s cheerleading was a weekend highlight!
19th of July – The Spitz, Piney re-united with her lovely friend Anat Ben David for Wired Women. Also playing was Kevin Blechdom, and FS_Ion. It was a very special gig, think riot grrl electro meets multimedia performance art (projections compliments of Mindlobster). Piney was still flu-ey so did the gig in her pajamas!
13th of July – Being Boiled @ Notting Hill Arts Club, Piney played with her friends Client. This was a hot and packed out evening showcasing talented and sexy ladies… Dj-ing by Depeche Mode’s own Andy Fletcher! The most stylish people in London seemed to all be in attandance.
10th of July – Piney played a free in-store gig at Rough Trade Record Shop in Neal’s Yard. The Rough Traders were lovely and the gig charmingly lo-fi!
4th of July – Piney celebrated Independence day with a special show devoted to Americana and all her roots at Nambucca in Archway. Piney did a synthy rendition of ‘Home On The Range’ and an interactive cheer to which the audience was very receptive! A Scholar And A Physician, looked totally hot dressed as American truckers! Mindlobster’s videos were ace, and Goldrush were on top form too… yee-haw!
1st of July – A perfect evening from start to finish, it was a successful launch for Piney’s debut solo album ‘Peakahokahoo.’ The Battersea Barge is a small wooden boat right there on the Thames, with red velvet and fairy lights it was an amazing set-up for Piney and all her friends who helped to make her album come to life. She was joined by A Scholar and a Physician,Ann Marie and Val, Ninki V., Dave ‘Steamie Windows’ Howell, Leo ‘slide guitar’ Whetter, and fantastic tunes played on grammophone record by the Gentlemen of Electricity.
26th of June – Piney played at the Seven Year Glitch Club at Catch 22. A Scholar And A Physician joined Piney for an outstanding performance. The Rebel was a fantastic opening act, all in all a top night!
17th of June – Piney dj-ed the KPM “Textures and Tones” launch party at the trendy Bedroom Bar in London’s own Shoreditch. See discog page to find out more about this CD (on which Piney has a track). The peacock competition is closed, watch this space for contest results.
12th of June – Clwb Ifor Bach, another fab Saturday night with Piney this time in Cardiff. This was her Welsh solo debut and her crash course in Welsh really paid off (thanks Adrian!). Piney charmed the hearts of the locals with a brand new song sung in la de dah French!
5th of June – The Fan Club @ The Verge, Piney played as well as her friends Trademark and Simon Bookish at Valerie’s Fan Club night! The crowd were beautifully stylish and gave a Piney an everso warm reception.
May 19th – Piney did her song and dance at the Zodiac, playing with Crack W.A.R. and the $hit… the night was electronic mayhem!
May 11th – at The Garage Upstairs, Piney played a full set with cute double bass player Dave, also joining her for some proper old-school crooning was the lovely Alex from Baxendale
6th of May – Piney was meant to play a short set at the Vicki Churchill variety show, but after a stunning performance of her new song “Lion (I Am One)” she had to stop because she was being electrocuted by the amp! Not as dramatic as it sounds, but is enough to lift the hairs on the back of your neck!
18th of April – Piney did a full set supporting Simple Kid at the Zodiac in Oxford. She won the crowd over with her all her musical charm!
17th of April – Piney played the Rough Trade Rota event at the Notting Hill Arts Club. It was a perfect way to spend Saturday afternoon, sipping coctails in this fine venue, It was a jolly good show by Piney, Simon Bookish and J.I.M.C.!
March 28-29 – Piney was on the road with Simple Kid and played to a full house of fab fans!
March 25th – The Foundry was the perfect setting for this multimedia event starting with Suffragette City DJ’s and J.I.M.C., then Piney Gir gave a tip top show with amazing visuals by
Mindlobster, Anat Ben David tried out some new songs. The place was packed full of lovely nice peeps, much fun was had by all!
March 10th – The Zodiac show was fantastic! With the help of A Scholar And A Physician, Piney wowed the crowd with her sultry lounge stylings, by the end of the night she was shouting through a megaphone. See photos page to check it out…
March 4th – Piney plays the Enterprise, an acoustic venue resulting in beautiful David Lynch style moments; Piney was warmly recieved in this intimate setting.
March 1st – One of those quirky Knom nights at the arts cafe. Headlining was Witchita records emo-rock signing Weevil. Piney was joined by her friend Sweetie to do a special version of Creature, complete with live electric drill!
22nd of February – Piney played another special Simple Kid Club in his home town of Cork. Piney was excited to find the biggest budgie bird she ever did see in a local pet shop, and she got to see the sea too (the sea makes her very happy)!
15th of February – Piney played a short set supporting Paul the Girl for a Resonance FM benefit at the Windmill. You can contact Resonance for a copy (¬£3).
6th of February – Piney did a “secret gig” at the Islington Bar, it was an unplugged battery set with her trusty little casio. She was joined by Kadine Jezabel James for a sassy performance of “Let’s Get Physical” as well as a moving duet “Sine Love” with Oli from Trademark There was even a dancing robot DJ!
21st of January – Piney played with Simple Kid at the 12 Bar Club… this was a special collaboration with S.K. and friends. Piney played the accordion, casio and recorder, musical saws sang and a French lady crooned; of course Simple Kid rocked! It was a special treat for a sold out crowd!
27th of November – It’s Thanksgiving day and Piney was playing the Spitz with the Mountaineers and the French (not a pumpkin pie in the house). It was a packed venue and an attentive crowd. Piney was joined by her double bass playing friend Dave “Stevie Windows” Howell. The Mountaineers and the French were on top form and a fabulous evening was had by all.
6th of November – Piney’s rendition of Status Quo’s “Pictures of Matchstick Men” went down a treat with special guest Steve Wood on electric sitar, and debut of “Nightsong” was received with thunderous applause. Keep an eye on the listen page for a clip of Nightsong.
21st of October – Piney played in Oxford at the Cellar, it’s PC Truck’s Trailerpark night, and she played with her friends – Trademark. Piney won over a friendly crowd, and a good time was had by all!
16th of October – Ann (formerly of Add N to X) launched her solo album “Large Number.” There were edible insects served by a hunchback. What more can one say?
11th of October at Strange Fruit @ the Garage Upstairs (London) – another great Strange Fruit gig!
4th of October at the Kosmiche Club @ the Garage Upstairs (London) – Piney’ solo debut show! – the gig went well and many thanks to the “boot girl” dancers. Anat Ben David was amazing with her video installations!
